The Audition Schedule is now available. CLICK HERE to view it. Addresses of locations are listed below.

Because of inclement weather / unsafe travel Feb. 13:
Auditions in Shelby ONLY are rescheduled for February 27.
Auditions in Raleigh ONLY are being rescheduled to take place before MARCH 13. Students will be contacted by a member of the ASYC Planning Team about an audition date. If a student wants to audition, please contact Sherry Thompson as soon as possible, and we will work something out.

Grandfathering Rule for 2010: If an All-Stater was a member of the 2008 or 2009 choir, they are allowed to join the 2010 ASYC without auditioning but will still need to fill out a registration form AND pay the $10 application fee, plus meet the spiritual expectation (which is determined through the recommendation forms) of ASYC. All-Staters from 2008 or 2009 will receive an invitation to join the choir without an audition. They still have to reserve their spot by doing the following by January 22:

1) Fill out a registration form AND pay the application fee of $10 by January 22, 2010 (this is to be paid online). CLICK HERE for the link then click on the little stickmen logo. Later when it asks "registering ___ slots," put in a "1." (NOTE: you must use Internet Explorer to access the form.) The $10 application fee is required by January 22 as well as two completed recommendation forms. You can either pay online using a credit card or mail in a check postmarked by January 22. Note: If you are not able to access the online Registration Form, CLICK HERE to print out a copy that you can mail in with your $10 fee. Make sure your check is made payable to Baptist State Convention and has ASYC and the name of the student(s) in the memo line.

2) Turn in TWO completed recommendation forms postmarked by January 22, 2009. The forms will turn into points and be part of your final score. CLICK HERE for the recommendation forms.

Once this information is in, a final selection will be made based on the points received from the recommendation forms. If you meet the expectations, you will receive an official invitation to join the 2010 ASYC by March 15. You will have until April 1 to pay a deposit, which will officially reserve your spot in the choir. If alternates are needed, you will be informed by April 15.

The following will take place at the audition:
1. Interview--A few sentences about yourself and your personal church and community involvement. Also, all students will submit TWO recommendation forms which will turn into part of their final score. For a copy of the form, CLICK HERE. The forms should be postmarked by January 22.
2. Vocal Range--At the audition site, we will simply use this as a warm-up for your voice and to give us the opportunity to hear your highest and lowest notes.
3. Prepared Hymn--You will need to prepare one memorized stanza of one hymn from the list provided. CLICK HERE for the list. During this section, you will be scored on your tone quality, intonation, diction, dynamic control and memorization. If your stanza is not memorized, you will be deducted one (1) point.
4. Sight Reading Hymn--We will provide a hymn that you will be asked to sight read on the spot at the audition site. You will sight read your vocal line (meaning Soprano, Alto, Tenor, or Bass) and are allowed to sing on “La” instead of having to sing the words of the hymn. During this section of the audition, you will be scored on your ability to sight read your part with the correct rhythm and correct notes.
5. Prepared Part--Choose either "Be Strong in the Lord" stanza 1, or "Amazing Grace" stanzas 1 and 5 from a hymnal. You will need to be able to sing your vocal line (meaning Soprano, Alto, Tenor, or Bass). Stanzas do not have to be memorized. You will need to be able to sing the written words and the accompanist will play the piano part while you sing your prepared line. During this section of the audition, you will be scored on your preparation, dynamics and breath control.
6. Tonal Memory--Three short musical phrases played and sung from memory.

Once you have auditioned, a final selection will be made based on the points received from the audition and the recommendation forms. If you meet the qualifications, you will receive an official invitation to join the 2010 ASYC by March 15. You will have until April 1 to pay a deposit, which will officially reserve your spot in the choir. If alternates are needed, you will be informed by April 15.
