Music and Missions Opportunities

Asia Initiative Change of Plans

The following was recently sent out to
NCBS Asia Initiative Team Members. Read on to see how God is working out his plan for this Music and Missions experience:

You responded affirmatively to the call to be a part of the NC Baptist Singers and Orchestra Asia Initiative during the opening of the Beijing Olympic Games next year. We are grateful for your willingness to be a part of our team. Recent developments, however, have made us reexamine the planned project. … Because you have committed the time and have already begun securing the resources to be a part of a significant music missions project during July 30-August 9 of next year, we have spent the past couple of weeks prayerfully exploring other options for all of us.

2007 Missions Opportunities with the NC Baptist Men

1)
Grifton, NC Projects :  Grifton, NC is located between Kinston and Greenville, NC. We have a large warehouse there that we use to house and feed volunteers as well as store disaster relief equipment and building materials. We are also working with the Pitt Housing Dept. to build or rebuild homes for people who are in sub-standard housing. There are many needed projects in Grifton, NC.

Billy Tarlton is our coordinator in Grifton. You can contact Billy directly by e-mail at btarlton@earthlink.net or by phone at 252-531-1931.

Appliances Are Needed in Grifton: Billy Tarlton has 6 families that need appliances. Used appliances will work great. We need washers, dryers, refrigerators and stoves. If you have used, but working appliances please contact Billy to schedule a time that you can get these to him in Grifton.

2) Gulfport, MS Projects : We have finished 390 homes in Gulfport, but we still have 210 to go. We will have 500 volunteers working the week after Christmas, but we especially need volunteers in January, February, March and April. Your help is greatly needed!

Betty Wynne is our staff person who works to schedule Gulfport groups. You can contact Betty at bwynne@bscnc.org or by  phone at 1-800-395-5102 ext. 339.

3) Eastern Canada Partnership :  Baptist leaders in Eastern Canada have submitted dozens of requests for NC Baptists to come alongside them for ministry in 2007. They have asked for teams to assist in a number of outreach projects (sports, music/drama, community service projects, block parties, etc.). They are also asking for Backyard Bible Club and Vacation Bible School teams, as well as construction teams. There is a great spiritual need in Canada, and these churches are asking for our help. Please pray about your involvement in this needed area!

The search tab will expand to give you more options. From the "Partnership" drop down box choose "Canada", and then click "Find". This will bring up all the Canada projects. If you want to narrow your search, choose "Canada" and then choose a certain kind of project, such as "construction" from the "Type" box. Then click "Find".

4) Wyoming/Montana Work & Witness Teams : Two exciting opportunities for service exist in the Rocky Mountain states. In Wyoming, teams are needed to serve at the Baptist Assembly near Casper. Three types of teams are needed: camp cooks (4-6 people); camp maintenance teams; and two metal roofing teams. Teams can stay at the camp and eat their meals there. Teams will need to rent local transportation. Dates for this are June-August.

In Montana, teams are needed to help in the construction of the Central Baptist Church in Lewistown. An on-site coordinator will be there to provide support. Teams will have the option of staying in the local community hall, which has bathrooms and showers, or in local hotels. Teams can prepare their meals at the existing church building. Dates for these teams will be July and August. Teams of anywhere from 8-24 with construction experience are needed.

5) Kenya Work & Witness Teams : North Carolina Baptist Men, working in cooperation with the Baptist Convention of Kenya, will sponsor teams to the African nation of Kenya in 2007. The nature of the mission effort will be to aid in the construction of a dormitory for the Kenya Baptist Theological College.  Teams are needed: September 9-22; September 23-October 6; October 10-23; October 24-November 6. NC Baptist Men will arrange airfare for each team. The team will be housed and fed on the premises. A van will carry volunteers from the airport to the worksite, and back to the airport at the end of the project. There will be a Kenyan foreman and skilled laborers who will work with the team. Teams may need to bring some hand tools.
